Recycling critters

Animals can be farmed in traditional ways, often industrialized to the point where welfare and sustainabillity need to be monitored. But animals can be mans best friend if used in a sustainable, friendly and in a symbiotic, even mutualistic way. And yes, even if they die. To really understand and love life, one needs to embrace death as well. Think 'balance' instead of 'good' and 'bad'.

dermestid beetles help cleaning skulls and bones. It is not as smelly as you think because the meat has to be dried before offered to the beetles. In very much the same way as your dried ham or pet snacks are dried. So no smell like there would be with fly larvae .... YUK!

Rats are just amazing animals as they can eat almost anything edible. They are not used in cleaning bones but serve another purpose. They can be pets or they can be feeder animals for carnivore pets. Breeding rats or other feeder animals is my way of offering something back to the animal world. I like to see the animals , including birds of prey and reptiles healthy and happy. And if they do die, then they are welcome back in the cycle.

Roaches are great recyclers too. They can eat almost anything and 2 products are generated. fertilizer and nutrient rich feeder animals. Sometimes roaches can even be used in skullcleaning.
